Zcash is moving faster than most chains after this week's quantum scare.
📌 What happened
Per CoinDesk, Zcash developers plan to add post-quantum, hash-based signature opcodes in January. The first target is transparent payments, where about 11.96 million of the 16.98 million $ZEC issued sits, roughly 70%.
🔍 Why it matters
• The aim is to stop attackers from working backward from a public key to forge spending approvals
• It follows a "bunker mode" warning from Ethereum researcher Justin Drake that put ZEC at the front of Thursday's selloff
• Ethereum's own quantum migration targets December 2029, so Zcash would be years ahead on this piece
👀 What to watch
• A real activation date, since January is when the code lands, not when the network turns it on
• The risk side: shielded payments need separate protection, and stored encrypted records could in theory be decrypted later
💬 Should every chain now publish a quantum timeline?
