Visa published a survey saying that by 2031, nearly half of consumers in Asia-Pacific would be willing to use stablecoins. That sounds very futuristic, but I raised an eyebrow at the word “willing.” It’s not that I don’t believe it; it’s just that people were in normal circumstances when the survey was conducted. Getting users to link their everyday payments to stablecoins is another matter entirely—KYC requirements, lost wallets, exchange-rate fluctuations. Those factors will put off a lot of people. That said, I agree with the general direction: acceptance of mobile payments is already high in Asia-Pacific, and stablecoins are far more competitive than local bank transfers as a tool for cross-border remittances. The difference in fees speaks for itself. If this market really takes off, the biggest winners will be the leading stablecoin issuers, not the exchanges.
