Apparently, some Ledgers (Nano X, although other models could be affected) purchased in Southeast Asia from the supplier CryptoBills fell victim to a supply-chain attack: at some point, a chip was implanted inside the device that monitors and records what is displayed on its screen (the seed phrase) and then transmits it to an attacker. Since the attack targets the hardware layer, the threat actor does NOT need to modify the firmware, so Ledger Wallet treats the device as genuine when performing the authenticity check.
