46% of Asia-Pacific consumers want to use stablecoins, but 41% think they only go up?

🔥 A stablecoin story worth discussing just appeared on X: Cointelegraph relayed a Visa survey saying that nearly half of Asia-Pacific consumers are willing to use stablecoins within the next five years. About 20 minutes after the original post went live, the conversation had already shifted from “crypto speculation tools” to everyday payments.

Visa’s Consumer 360 survey, published on October 5, covered 14 Asia-Pacific markets and 14,250 people. 46% of respondents said they might use stablecoins within the next five years, while only 16% had actually used them in the past 12 months; 49% think stablecoins could become a common way to make cross-border transfers.

The most striking figures come next: only 6% of people accurately understand how stablecoins work, and 41% even think stablecoins always appreciate in value. In other words, interest is growing fast, but awareness and risk education haven’t kept pace. Visa also found that 38% of non-users are concerned about scams, while 36% say they don’t understand stablecoins.

🧠 My take: This looks more like a survey of potential demand for payment infrastructure than proof that “stablecoins are about to go mainstream.” For ordinary users, whether they can convert them, who holds them in custody, and whether they can recover their funds if something goes wrong matter more than the growth rates touted in promotional material. Visa itself is also developing related platforms, so these figures should be viewed as research with a commercial perspective—not taken at face value.

What to watch next isn’t the rhetoric, but actual transaction volumes, compliant products, and merchant adoption. More people being willing to try stablecoins doesn’t mean they’re willing to convert all their wages and savings into them.

💬 Would you use stablecoins as a cross-border payment tool, or treat them only as a “cash reserve” in a trading account? Why?
