The MACD histogram is the difference between DIF and DEA; some software multiplies it by 2. The moment the histogram turns from negative to positive is exactly when DIF crosses above DEA.
Many people compare larger and smaller timeframes: when the daily trend remains unchanged, a countertrend crossover on a shorter timeframe is often just a pullback or rebound.
The same data can mean completely different things under different market conditions, so don’t apply a single rule mechanically.
