Why is Bitcoin capped at 21 million coins?
Bitcoin’s total supply is capped at around 21 million coins because of the rule that block rewards are halved periodically.
In April 2024, Bitcoin underwent its fourth halving at block 840,000, reducing the block reward from 6.25 coins to 3.125.
The key thing to remember when managing your money: be skeptical of claims that an upcoming halving is a reason prices will rise. There are few comparable examples, and many other factors affect the market.
