Trump and Putin agreed on supplies of Russian diesel. The market has already reacted

After a phone call on October 9, Trump said an agreement had been reached on supplies of Russian diesel fuel. The plans he outlined include a total volume of around 4.8 million tonnes.

What matters: 🔹 The US eased restrictions on transactions involving Russian diesel. 🔹 Trump outlined several stages of deliveries, including additional volumes in the coming months. 🔹 After the US president’s statement, diesel futures in the US fell by about 4–5%.

But there’s a caveat: the announced volumes don’t mean the fuel has already been shipped. The Kremlin confirmed Russia’s readiness to supply petroleum products, but did not separately confirm the full schedule or volume.

The key question now is: is this a one-off measure to stabilize the market, or the beginning of a broader change in energy relations between Russia and the US?
