Wallets and security | What’s the difference between private keys, public keys, and addresses?
Bitcoin and Ethereum private keys are both essentially 256-bit random numbers, and both use the secp256k1 elliptic curve.
Think of an address as an account for receiving funds, and a private key as the only credential for accessing those funds: you can share your account details with anyone, but your private key should be known only to you.
