Solana doubles its network speed to 200 ms ahead of Alpenglow
Solana reduced its target block production interval from 400 to 200 milliseconds, generating up to five blocks per second on its mainnet.
The update (SIMD-0525), deployed by Anza, reduces epoch duration to 24 hours and shortens transaction expiration to 30 seconds. Although it improves latency for trading on DEX platforms, it does not increase total processing capacity (TPS), since the computational budget per block was reduced proportionally.
The adjustment prepares the infrastructure for Alpenglow, the upcoming consensus overhaul aimed at achieving transaction finality in 150 milliseconds.
