With 63.2 billion tokens in circulation, after 8 million AI micropayments, only 80 XRP were burned—about $112. High-frequency trading sounds impressive, but it has barely made a dent in the token supply.
More awkwardly, of the 3.8 million early x402 transactions, only about 5,700 XRP and 3,600 RLUSD were actually settled, worth less than $12,000 combined. Businesses and developers tend to prefer pricing in stablecoins. Transaction counts are rising, but there’s no sign of enough demand for XRP settlement.
I don’t buy the idea that “on-chain activity should automatically earn a token a price premium.” Eight million transactions couldn’t burn even 100 tokens. For now, AI payments are a traffic story for XRP, not a buying-demand story.
