More than 6,000 merchants now support DOGE payments, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people haven’t even heard about it.

I was browsing the House of Doge website recently and saw that they’ve highlighted their payment partnership with MoonPay in their business overview.

This was actually announced back in June. At the time, House of Doge and MoonPay announced that DOGE had officially been integrated into MoonPay Commerce, giving it access to a payment network serving more than 6,000 merchants worldwide.

There’s one important detail here.

After merchants receive DOGE, they can settle it directly into fiat currency or stablecoins through the system, so they don’t have to bear the price volatility of Dogecoin themselves. For merchants, that’s a lot more practical than simply putting up a sign that says “We accept cryptocurrency.”

The two parties also plan to launch a dedicated ÐOGE Pay service, offering new merchants a way to accept DOGE, with a processing fee of 1% announced.

I think this is actually the right direction.

A lot of people like Dogecoin, but when it comes to actually using DOGE to buy things every day, the questions start piling up: Where can you use it? Are merchants willing to accept it? And what do they do about price volatility after they receive it?

Unless these issues are addressed, it’s hard to make much real progress just by having the community constantly cheer on payment adoption.

That said, don’t take “6,000 merchants” to mean that 6,000 stores are all processing large volumes of DOGE every day. Being connected to the network and actual transaction volume are two completely different things, and so far I haven’t seen sufficiently comprehensive data on DOGE payment transactions.

Going forward, I’d actually like to see the project team publish fewer partnership announcements and share more data on actual payment counts, merchant activity, and transaction amounts.

If those numbers can genuinely keep growing, then the DOGE payments story will finally start to become a reality.

Honestly, I’m looking forward to the day when I can head out, buy a cup of coffee, and pay with $DOGE .
