What exactly is Cardano’s Ouroboros?
Ouroboros is the proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus protocol used by Cardano. It addresses a fundamental question: without a central record-keeping authority, how can a network agree on the order of transactions and the state of the ledger?
On Cardano, stake pools participate in producing blocks. The protocol selects block producers based on stake and random processes, rather than having miners compete over computing power.
Early research on Ouroboros was peer-reviewed and published at CRYPTO 2017. This reflects Cardano’s research-driven technical approach, but peer review does not mean a system is entirely risk-free, nor does it directly predict how the token price will perform.
When evaluating a project, it helps to consider “how the technology is designed,” “how it performs in practice,” and “the token price” separately.
