That night, I almost threw my phone away

At 3:17 a.m., I was jolted awake by a flurry of message notifications.

Still half-asleep, I picked up my phone and saw someone in the group chat had posted: “MAGIC is pumping—come take a look!”

I was wide awake in an instant. I opened Binance and saw MAGIC’s price had shot straight up from a little over $0.06 to nearly $0.13—a gain of more than 86%. My hands started shaking as I remembered that three days earlier, I’d spent 200 U buying a batch of MAGIC. The price dropped right after I bought, and I’d almost forgotten about it.

Two hundred U wasn’t a lot for me, but it wasn’t nothing, either. I’d just taken a beating from ETH futures, losing more than 30,000, and I’d come to love and hate crypto in equal measure. I’d bought MAGIC on a whim. Someone in the group had said its gaming ecosystem was about to take off, so I casually placed an order and then forgot all about it.

Now, watching candle after candle shoot upward, my heart felt like it was about to leap out of my throat.

Should I sell or not?

That question torments everyone in crypto. The last time PEPE went up, I held on—but then one pullback wiped out all my gains, and I eventually sold at a loss. It hurt even more than losing money, because I’d seen the hope with my own eyes.

I took a deep breath and told myself not to get greedy. MAGIC had climbed from a low of $0.065 to $0.12—almost doubling. Small-cap coins can pump fast and dump just as fast, and the market can turn on a dime in the middle of the night.

I tapped “Sell all.”

The order filled at $0.1238. My 200 U had become more than 370.

I’d made less than 200 bucks, but I slept better that night than I had in the past three months.

When I woke up the next day, MAGIC had fallen back to $0.08. The group chat was full of groans. Everyone who’d been saying they were holding for a hundredfold gain had been left holding the bag.

Looking at the extra hundred-plus U in my account, I suddenly understood something: in this market, the real winners are the ones who make it out alive with their money.

You don’t have to make a fortune on every trade. If you can keep your hands under control, you’ve already beaten 90% of people.
