Bitcoin didn’t come out of nowhere: before Bitcoin, the cryptography community had already proposed several forms of electronic cash.
Early cryptographers’ names are often used to lend credibility to new tokens. Don’t jump on the bandwagon if the name has nothing to do with the project.
The white paper for $BTC lists Wei Dai’s b-money as its very first reference. It’s currently 82622.04.
