US Treasury Secretary Bessent said on Thursday that the US "may seize approximately $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency this week" as part of its enforcement of sanctions against Iran. He stressed: "We know where they are and are isolating them."
In August this year, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control named crypto exchanges that had transferred funds for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Bessent previously disclosed in April that the US had seized $500 million in Iran-linked assets. Tether reported that it had cooperated with US authorities to freeze $550 million in $USDT in 2026.
