Came across an announcement from the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS): 34 state financial regulators have reached a $2.5 million settlement with Seattle-based crypto remittance and Bitcoin ATM operator Coinme, alleging violations of BSA/AML requirements.

Under the agreement, Coinme must shut down its crypto kiosks by January 1, 2027, or face an additional $4 million penalty. It must also hire an independent consultant to review and overhaul its anti-money laundering program. Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington led the effort.

Media reports add that Coinme’s website says it operates around 6,000 Bitcoin ATMs across the U.S. in partnership with Coinstar. Crypto kiosks have faced growing scrutiny in recent years, with many states restricting or even banning them.
