The thing I find myself pausing over with dotUSD is the question of control before the question of price. Polkadot wants to build a stablecoin that does not rely on a traditional issuer, and 98.4% of OpenGov participants approved the proposal. For now, it is being minted against USDT at a 1:1 ratio, while using DOT as collateral will come later. Technically, this shift opens the door to a different way of managing the dollar on-chain, but decentralization alone does not guarantee stability; what will matter to me is how collateral is managed during a market downturn, and who bears the risks if the peg breaks. That is where the idea begins to meet reality.
