KAIA funding interval changes from 4 hours to 1 hour: recalculate your position budget

According to Binance’s official historical records, at 20:00 Beijing time on October 9, 2026, the settled funding rate for the KAIAUSDT perpetual contract hit -2%, followed by consecutive hourly settlement records. When verified at 01:20 on October 10, the official parameters still showed a 1-hour interval. If an existing position still uses the old 4-hour budget, it may miss settlement points during the planned holding period.

With a negative funding rate, shorts pay and longs receive; funding payments are transferred between traders on either side of the position. This is different from opening and closing fees, and the two should not be combined into one cost. A negative rate only indicates the direction of payment; it does not, by itself, prove that a rebound is coming. The settled rate at 01:00 on October 10 was -0.214591%. Assuming a short position had a notional value of 10,000 USDT at this settlement point, its payment for the period would be about 21.46 USDT; a long position of the same notional value would receive that funding payment. Notional value is determined by the mark price and position size. This is an example, not anyone’s actual bill, and KAIA spot trading is not involved in this settlement.

Why did the interval become shorter? Under the current rules, the previous period’s final settlement rate is checked against the funding rate cap or floor. If it reaches either limit, the interval may change from 4 or 8 hours to 1 hour. An estimated intraday rate that briefly touches a limit cannot substitute for the final settlement result.

More frequent settlements do not mean that daily costs will automatically double. The final amount still depends on each period’s rate, the position’s notional value, and how long it is actually held. Historical rates are no guarantee of future rates, so you should not simply multiply a single period’s rate by 24 and treat it as certain income or expense. For an existing position, it is more useful to check which settlement points fall within your planned holding period, then calculate funding separately from price gains or losses and trading fees.

If the rate changes sign, the direction of payment reverses; if the actual interval or rules change, the budget should also be recalculated. Even when you receive funding, an adverse price move may exceed that income; for a payer, deductions from position margin may also affect liquidation risk. Check the countdown before settlement and verify the actual bill afterward—don’t wait until the last few seconds and gamble on whether a payment will be charged. This example is intended to help you check position costs and does not guarantee returns.
