Not All Government Bitcoin Is Actually Government Money.

This is something many people overlook when tracking large BTC transfers.

The US government holds billions of dollars in seized crypto, but that doesn't automatically mean it can use every coin however it wants.

Take the recent movement of 12,267 BTC linked to the Bitfinex hack.

The key detail is that these assets are subject to a court-ordered restitution process. They're not necessarily part of the government's strategic Bitcoin holdings.

There's a big difference between:

🔹 Bitcoin the government is legally entitled to retain
🔹 Bitcoin held as evidence or seized during an investigation
🔹 Bitcoin that must be returned to its rightful owner

Treating all three categories as potential selling pressure can lead to the wrong conclusion.

The real question isn't just how much Bitcoin moved. It's who has the legal right to keep it.

Do you think crypto traders pay enough attention to this distinction?
