AI × DePIN doesn't always need massive GPU clusters

One thing that caught my attention about
@Acurast is Laya, an open-source model designed to run decision-making tasks directly on Android phone CPUs

According to Acurast, some tasks can run in around 0.2–1 second, including email classification and toxicity detection

The idea is simple: not every AI workload needs expensive infrastructure. Some can run on hardware we already have in our pockets

Acurast also uses TEE to help isolate execution and make computation more verifiable

But there's one thing worth keeping in mind

Having hundreds of thousands of devices connected doesn't automatically mean there's strong demand for their computing power

The real question is whether developers will deploy useful workloads and pay to use the network at scale

For me, that's what will matter most for the long-term potential of AI × DePIN: not just how many devices are connected, but how much useful work they actually perform
