Today's price, October 9:

- Trading volume: $178 million spot + $1.24 billion futures - a 363% explosion compared to yesterday
- Market cap: ~$507 million

Why did it explode?
Yesterday, October 8, the official Starknet account posted on X:

> "We are actively considering becoming an L1. This would enable Starknet to become the first fully quantum-resistant network, with 2027 as our target."

Translation: They're considering moving beyond being an Ethereum Layer-2 and becoming an independent Layer-1 network so they can be the first network resistant to quantum computers by 2027.

- The parent company, StarkWare, is collaborating with OpenZeppelin to develop the Falcon-512 wallet with post-quantum signatures
- The v0.14.4 update went live on the mainnet last Monday

This is a big deal because there's been a lot of discussion this week about *the threat quantum computers pose to Bitcoin and Ethereum*, so any project saying "I'm quantum-resistant" sets the market on fire.

Will they actually leave Ethereum?
It's still *an idea under consideration*; there's no governance vote or detailed implementation plan. The risks if they become an L1:
- They would lose Ethereum's security
- They would need to create their own consensus mechanism

If it holds above $0.060 support, analysts think it could reach $0.075 - $0.10. If it falls below that, it could return to $0.057.
