A new decision could reshape the investment landscape in Southeast Asia: Thailand plans to allow trading of exchange-traded funds linked to $BTC and $ETH on its stock exchange, starting October 16.

This means investors in the country will no longer have to use digital trading platforms or crypto-asset wallets to gain direct exposure to the cryptocurrency market. Instead, they’ll be able to do so through financial instruments listed on a traditional exchange and subject to established regulatory frameworks.

The main benefit here is access: ETFs give institutional and individual investors a regulated channel, which could open the door to new inflows into the two largest digital assets by market capitalization.

The information currently available does not include key details such as the identity of the funds’ issuer, the fees charged, investor eligibility requirements, or whether approval is final or still subject to additional regulatory procedures before the launch date.

It also remains unclear whether the decision covers only certain types of spot or derivative funds, and whether trading will be limited to local investors or open to non-residents as well. These details will determine the actual scale of the impact—not simply the announcement of a date.

The key question remains: Will this move turn Thailand into a regional gateway for crypto funds in Asia, or will it remain a limited local initiative? The answer will emerge after October 16.
