While U.S. spot Ripple (XRP) (XRP) ETFs saw about $8 million in net inflows on Thursday, Bitcoin (BTC) ETFs recorded $244 million in outflows, bringing their cumulative net outflows over two days to about $729 million.

Key points:

  • XRP ETFs were the only major cryptocurrency ETFs to record net inflows on Thursday, attracting about $8 million.

  • Bitcoin ETFs saw another $244 million in outflows on Thursday, following $485 million on Wednesday, bringing their two-day net outflows to about $729 million.

  • Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL) and Zcash (ZEC) ETFs also all saw outflows.

XRP ETF fund flows

U.S. spot XRP ETFs were the only group of crypto ETFs to end Thursday’s trading session with net inflows. All of the inflows went to XRPZ, managed by Franklin Templeton, which added about 6 million XRP. The other four XRP ETFs recorded “zero flows,” with no inflows or outflows.

Bitcoin ETFs saw about $244 million in outflows on Thursday, widening the outflow after $485 million in redemptions the previous day. Ethereum ETFs saw outflows of about $73 million, while Solana ETFs shed around $3 million. The only spot Zcash ETF in the U.S. also saw about $19 million flow out, adding to the bearish trend.

These redemptions came amid a broader sell-off across crypto markets. Forced liquidations of leveraged positions totaled about $1.19 billion, pushing Bitcoin’s price down to around $80,400 at one point before it recovered to roughly $82,000.

Bitcoin ETFs bear the brunt

According to CoinDesk data, XRP ETFs have recorded cumulative net inflows of about $1.81 billion since launch. That is more than the roughly $1.59 billion in cumulative net inflows for Solana ETFs. Notably, XRP ETFs were the only ones to post positive flows on Thursday, highlighting their relative strength in supply and demand.

ETF fund flows show demand for regulated investment products, but they do not identify individual buyers or reveal whether their positions are hedged. According to regulatory filings previously cited by CoinDesk, major institutional investors including Goldman Sachs, Jane Street and Millennium Management were listed among the top holders of XRP ETFs.

Recent inflows are also significant as an extension of a longer-term trend. In a September 2 report, CoinDesk said the XRP ETF had recorded net inflows for 11 consecutive trading days, attracting about $170 million and bringing cumulative net inflows to $1.68 billion. That figure has since grown to about $1.81 billion.
