$BTC is back above 82k—these levels are worth keeping an eye on

$BTC is back at $82,978 tonight, up 1.44% over the past 24 hours, with $1.46 billion in trading volume.

The market has been moving sideways between 80k and 83k for the past few days. Tonight marks the third attempt to break through 83k. The previous two rallies ran out of steam on low volume, so whether BTC can hold this level is key.

Here are a few metrics I’m watching:

First, BTC futures open interest (OI) is down 0.1% over the past hour, with no meaningful increase. That suggests the rally is being driven by existing positions, with no major new players stepping in. Second, the long/short ratio is 1.55. Longs have a slight edge, but things have cooled off considerably compared with the extreme readings of a few days ago.

The funding rate is 0.001% per 8 hours, practically zero. Longs aren’t rushing to add leverage, and shorts aren’t making any large bets either. In this neutral setup, the trend is more likely to continue than to suddenly explode.

I won’t make any predictions about whether 82.9k will hold. But if you have a position at this level, consider setting a trailing stop-loss so your gains don’t turn into losses.

Are you holding BTC spot or futures right now? How large is your position?
