As things stand with Huawei’s Maextro, regulators have their eye on it. The China Automotive Technology and Research Center, which is responsible for vehicle testing and standards, was reportedly in a rush to send questionnaires to major automakers today, asking about the materials used in brake pedal assemblies. It looks a bit like a broad survey ahead of a regulatory change.

This has also pulled back the curtain on an industry secret: even for luxury cars costing over a million yuan, domestic suppliers quote less than 100 yuan for a brake pedal assembly.
