Let’s talk about how gainers lists work and how to spot the next top performer.
A gainers list only shows who rose the most that day; it doesn’t tell you who will keep rising. To make the list, a coin usually has a small circulating supply, a sudden concentration of buying, and some news to go with it.
Generally, it comes down to a few factors:
News brings in buyers. KAIA was listed on Upbit, STRK was tied to Starknet’s roadmap, and PYTH to a buyback. The news itself doesn’t determine the size of the gain—it depends on whether people see it as a reason to buy.
Trading volume expands relative to its own norm. RLC’s volume was about 2.8 times its average over the past 7 days, KAIA’s about 24 times, and SKL’s about 7.4 times.
The absolute amount doesn’t have to be large; what matters is that it’s higher than usual for that coin. KAIA gained 38% on just $21.1 million in volume because it usually trades less than $1 million a day.
Small market cap. The same amount of buying can more easily send a coin with daily volume of $1–2 million sharply higher than it would a major coin.
That’s why the top spots on these lists are often occupied by small- and mid-cap coins, not BTC or ETH.
Short covering or leveraged liquidations can further amplify spot price gains. A spot market list doesn’t show open positions, but sharp rallies often coincide with stop-losses being triggered on short positions in perpetual futures.
