In Arthur’s early years of trading, he always assumed the people at the top could see what was coming next—that they were bound to think further ahead than he did. It wasn’t until later that he realized they were waiting for signals too, and only moved when someone else made the call. The general public is even worse: they can’t think of anything until the data comes out, then they all rush in at once.
So my rule of thumb now is simple: don’t assume anyone is a genius—not even yourself. There are no wizards in the market, just people who get out early and people who get out late.
All you can do is spread out your positions, hold on, avoid high leverage, and don’t go all-in. If things aren’t clear, wait a bit. Don’t rush to jump in.
