Came across this on CNBC: Blockchain.com has filed two applications with the CFTC—seeking a Designated Contract Market (DCM) license to operate as a futures exchange, and registration as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM)—so it can offer prediction market event contracts and crypto derivatives in the US.
Its international business is already up and running: it has partnered with Polymarket to launch prediction markets and connected with Hyperliquid on the perpetuals side. CEO Peter Smith says the goal is to bring asset management, derivatives trading, and betting on real-world events under one compliant framework, so users don’t have to jump between apps.
It’s roughly the 12th company to apply for a DCM license this year, and the CFTC has approved six new DCMs in 2026 so far. In May, the company also confidentially filed IPO paperwork with the SEC. Bloomberg previously reported a target valuation of around $4–6 billion.
In prediction markets, Crypto.com and Gemini are launching their own offerings, while Coinbase is primarily relying on Kalshi—now another established wallet and trading platform is looking to enter the market through official channels.
