📰 My most striking impression of TOKEN2049 this time wasn’t how many people were there, but how the two venues felt like two separate circles: around 80% of the crowd at the main venue were foreigners, while around 80% at the BNB Chain venue were Chinese. The former felt more like a business gathering for industry projects, while the latter was more like an in-person meetup for Chinese crypto enthusiasts.

🔥 The booths at the main venue were mostly taken up by exchanges and crypto payment projects. After talking with people, it became clear that two-way payments between fiat and crypto are already fairly mature. Compliant fiat on- and off-ramps overseas and localized payment options have basically become essential for projects expanding abroad.

💡 Another clear shift: projects looking to expand globally can’t rely on a single, one-size-fits-all strategy. Markets in Europe and the US, South America, and Africa differ considerably, so marketing and operations need to be more locally tailored.

Honestly, the online and offline atmospheres are completely different. Online, people get swept up in market noise and negativity, and many feel there are no opportunities. Offline, people are looking for promising projects, exchanging resources, and seriously discussing partnerships. Ten online conversations may not be worth one in-person meeting.

👀 But renting a booth isn’t worthwhile for everyone. For a project just getting started, renting a booth at the main venue may not bring many conversions; projects in a high-growth phase or already well established are better suited to using it for brand exposure. Even without renting a booth, simply attending to meet partners and users can offer better value for money.

🤔 If you’re building a project today, do you think the budget should go toward online advertising or meeting people in person?
