KAIA spot is up about 57% in 24 hours, but perpetuals are up only about 47%, and the current perpetual mark price is still nearly 7% below the index price. Meanwhile, contract notional OI rose from around 2.25 million U to around 12.51 million U in about 6 hours. The conclusion is clear: this is a high-volatility rally led by spot, with contracts lagging. Don’t treat it as a confirmed trend breakout just because the gain is large.

As of 19:37 Beijing time on October 9, 2026, Binance spot KAIAUSDT was trading at around $0.06070, up 56.85% over 24 hours, with a range of $0.03610–$0.06800 and trading volume of around $19.55 million. USDⓈ-M perpetuals were trading at around $0.05660, up 46.67% over 24 hours, with a range of $0.03603–$0.06179 and trading volume of around $214.8 million. Spot is priced notably higher than perpetuals, indicating that the two markets are not aligned in their pricing.

Changes in leverage on the derivatives side deserve closer attention. Binance’s publicly available 1-hour OI data shows nominal OI rising rapidly from about 2.249 million U at 13:00 Beijing time to about 12.509 million U at 19:00, an increase of approximately 456.5% in about six hours. This indicates that a large number of contract positions entered the market in a short period, but an increase in OI does not distinguish between long and short positions, so it cannot be equated directly with “stronger bulls.” When prices rise rapidly and OI surges at the same time, liquidations on both sides and sharp wicks are more likely to follow.

Funding rates are also signaling risk: the current KAIA perpetual funding rate is -0.020%, while several previous settlement rates were 0.005%. Combined with the marked discount of the perpetual contract to the index, this may indicate heavy short-side positioning or aggressive shorting in the derivatives market. However, a negative funding rate is no safety net; if spot prices pull back, the discount and high OI could amplify volatility at the same time.

Based on the 1-hour candles that have closed, the candle from 14:00 to 15:00 Beijing time closed at 0.04897, the 15:00 to 16:00 candle at 0.05445, and the 16:00 to 17:00 candle at 0.05462. Trading volume rose from about $34.85 million to $95.48 million. Volume has indeed increased, but the current daily candle and the latest 1-hour candle have not yet closed, so the intraday spike should not be described as a confirmed breakout on the daily chart.

For the short term, watch three things: First, can the price hold steadily above the highs of the closed 1-hour candles and drive a marked narrowing of the perpetual discount? Second, if OI continues to rise, can the price still hold around 0.05462 rather than relying solely on a momentary spike? Third, a drop back below 0.04897 would indicate that support for the latest accelerated rally is beginning to fail. To the upside, first watch the intraday highs near 0.06179 for the perpetual contract and 0.06800 for spot; even a break above these levels would still need confirmation at the close.
