Imagine this: you’ve accumulated cryptocurrency, but one mistake could mean losing access to your funds forever.

Unlike a regular bank account, a cryptocurrency wallet doesn’t always come with customer support that can restore access. That’s why security starts with you.

Here are 7 rules every beginner should know 👇

1️⃣ Never share your seed phrase with anyone

This is your wallet’s secret recovery phrase. If a scammer gets it, they could potentially take your funds. Even if someone claims to work for an exchange or support team, never give them this phrase.

2️⃣ Don’t store your seed phrase on your phone

Don’t take screenshots or save your secret words in regular notes, email, or the cloud. It’s better to make a backup on a physical medium and keep it somewhere secure.

3️⃣ Download wallets only from official sources

Fake apps and websites can look almost identical to the real thing. Check the website address and the developer before installing an app.

4️⃣ Enable two-factor authentication

If you use a crypto exchange, enable additional sign-in protection and use a unique password. This doesn’t replace wallet security, but it lowers the risk of your account being hacked.

5️⃣ Check the address before sending

A mistake in the address or network selection can lead to a loss of funds. Always check the recipient’s address, the network, and the amount. For large transfers, it’s wise to send a small test amount first.

6️⃣ Watch out for suspicious links

Don’t connect your wallet to unfamiliar websites or sign transactions you don’t understand. Free token giveaways and promises of guaranteed profits are often used by scammers.

7️⃣ Consider a hardware wallet for large amounts

It helps protect your private keys from some threats involving computers and phones. But even a hardware wallet won’t save you if you hand your secret recovery phrase to a scammer.

⚠️ Remember the most important thing: legitimate support staff will never need your seed phrase. Never enter it on a website just because someone promises to check your wallet’s security.

💬 A question for you: what do you think is the biggest threat to a cryptocurrency owner—hacking, phishing, or making a mistake yourself?
