Japan's Financial Services Agency has asked financial institutions, including cryptocurrency exchanges, to stop using images of driver’s licenses and other identification documents for identity verification as soon as possible. According to ChainCatcher, the agency wants firms to switch to a new verification method that reads integrated circuit chip data through smart devices.
