【ETH’s Biggest Buyer Suddenly Hits the Brakes—Will Retail Investors Be Left Holding the Bag? 😱🐋】

After accumulating ETH for over a year, its biggest buyer has suddenly called a halt. ⏸️ Tom Lee said it plainly: $ETH once they reach 5% of the total supply, that’s the limit. Bitmine holds 6.01 million ETH, or 4.9% of the supply. It’s less than 100,000 ETH away from that red line.

Just how much can this company swallow? 🐳 Last week alone, it bought 15,000 ETH. Across the entire network, 20,876 new ETH were issued during the same period. In plain English, it gobbled up 72% of the new supply. At its fastest pace, it bought over 100,000 ETH in a single week. It has added more than 1 million ETH since the start of this year.

But now, it’s about to become a seller. 💸 To keep its stake at 5%, it would have to sell 80,000 ETH a year. No one has stepped up to take its place yet. $ETH Spot ETFs have seen outflows for eight straight trading days, totaling $641 million. On October 6 alone, $202 million flowed out.

Supply hasn’t been idle either. 📉 Ethereum’s net supply grows by about 2,980 ETH a day, or 0.86% a year. Only 655 ETH were burned over the same period. From October 7 to 8, $ETH fell 8.2%, also losing the $2,500 level.

Personally, I think the key isn’t how much is being sold. 🔁 It’s that a buyer has turned into a seller. At current prices, 80,000 ETH is worth about $200 million. That’s less than $600,000 a day on average, so the impact is limited. But sentiment doesn’t care about the size of the trade. The biggest buyer is gone; now the price has to stand on its own.

Institutions collectively hold just 7% of $ETH . 🏦 Tom Lee says this cycle could take that figure to 15%. Someone will have to take on the 9.8 million ETH in between. The second-largest corporate treasury holds only 890,000 ETH. Right now, no one’s raising their hand. Sooner or later, the numbers will have to add up.

📌 The biggest $ETH buyer is hitting the brakes, and no one is waiting in the wings to take over.

What do you think? Is 5% a hard cap, or an excuse to raise money in the next round? Share your thoughts in the comments.
