【Market Update】The EU is stepping up its crackdown on the stablecoin market. On October 8, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) issued a new opinion requiring crypto firms authorised under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) to resolve, within three months, any remaining exposure to non-compliant stablecoins in the services they provide to EU customers. Where legacy exposure is identified, national regulators should require firms to address it as soon as possible, and no later than three months after the opinion was issued—around January 8, 2027. This means the bar for stablecoin compliance in the European market is being raised further, while the scope for circulating certain non-compliant coins will continue to narrow.
