Came across this on CoinDesk: Solana is lowering its target block time from 250 ms to 200 ms today. This is the final step in a series of cuts that have halved it from 400 ms since August.

According to Anza, the developer of Agave, the change will take effect at the boundary of epoch 1053, around 11 p.m. Beijing time tonight. The target is about five block slots per second, up from roughly 2.5 at 400 ms. The technical proposal SIMD-0525 also lowers the compute limit per block from 37.5 million CU to 30 million. Blocks will be more frequent but smaller, keeping overall throughput roughly unchanged.

The upside is that wallets and exchanges can get the latest state more often, potentially reducing transaction queues and opportunities for front-running. The trade-off is more frequent validator voting and heavier bandwidth demands. The blockhash validity window will also be shorter, making timing more critical for manual and offline signing. In tests, the average slot during the 250 ms phase was about 266–269 ms, slightly slower than the target. The change has been deployed to testnet and devnet; mainnet will depend on the skipped-slot rate.
