$KAIA surged 29.3%, shorts are piling in
It rose 29.3%, so why are shorts getting even more aggressive?
Three data points, all telling the same story:
① Funding rate -0.5406% → -0.6911%. It has already turned negative and is still moving lower — shorts have the upper hand, but the cost of holding short positions is starting to rise.
② Open interest +20.2%: 2.2M → 2.3M → 2.3M → 2.7M. With the price standing at 0.04999 USDT, people are still putting real money in to build positions, so this is not a low-volume grind down.
③ 24h trading volume $44.7M, market cap $326.5M, spot trading pairs are available, and the media is watching closely.
There is only one explanation: negative funding plus a surge in open interest. The more comfortable shorts feel right now, the stronger the rebound force they may have to cover later.
So this does not look like "shorts have won". It looks more like shorts are laying the floor for a reversal on behalf of the other side.
Don’t read a deeply negative funding rate as guaranteed downside, and don’t read it as guaranteed upside either. Direction is not set yet, but cost is.
The most extreme funding-rate moments are often also the moments with the highest slippage and the most frequent wicks.
