Let’s get straight to the point: Bitcoin’s biggest risk isn’t the price. It’s that old address in your wallet. Glassnode just laid out the numbers: 6.04 million $BTC on-chain have public keys that are already exposed. We haven’t seen numbers like this since 2016. Wallet hygiene is a lesson we’ll all have to learn sooner or later. 🔓

That’s 30.2% of the total supply issued so far. It breaks down into two parts. One is structural: 1.92 million coins. Older script types expose public keys by default. The other is behavioral: 4.12 million coins. That includes reused addresses and change addresses that have already been spent from. 📊

The most eye-catching figure is from exchanges. Exchange wallets alone hold 1.63 million coins—8.1% of the entire network’s supply. Many people think keeping coins on a platform is the safest option. But the public keys are already there on-chain for everyone to see. The only way to reduce the exposure for these coins is for platforms to change their wallet practices. 🏦

My personal take is straightforward: there’s nothing wrong with Bitcoin’s code. The problem is laziness. Using a new address each time reduces your exposure. Yet most people keep using the same address. That’s how privacy gets chipped away, bit by bit. 🧠

A quick look at the market, too. $BTC just climbed back above $82,000, while $ETH fell below $2,500. Spot ETFs have seen outflows for seven days in a row. Ethereum alone saw $565 million flow out. U.S. Treasury yields are still near their highest levels in over two decades, yet prices are wavering. 📉

I think ordinary holders should start by separating their long-term storage addresses. Use a new address for large amounts, and don’t mix it with everyday transfers. Move the coins in your old addresses sooner rather than later. This isn’t about when quantum computing arrives—it’s about habits. Better to act sooner than later. 🔐

📌 Glassnode: Public keys for 6.04 million $BTC are exposed, representing 30.2% of the total supply. Exchange wallets alone account for 1.63 million coins.

How long has it been since you changed the address you use to store your coins? Let’s talk in the comments.
