#ETH People often ask: How can you really grow a small amount of capital?
The fastest way has never been to hit it big on a single trade. It’s to first ask yourself: Can I handle the worst-case scenario?
I once mentored a friend with a small amount of starting capital who steadily grew it over three months. No magic tricks, no gambling on the market—just one principle: calculate the potential loss before every trade. If you can’t work it out, don’t enter.
The most common mistake among retail traders is focusing only on profits from the start. But those who truly survive in the market always make sure they have an exit plan first.
When I trade short-term, my stop-losses are always tight, and I stick to them without hesitation. It’s not being timid; with a small account, you simply can’t afford to be reckless.
It’s fine to earn a little less, as long as your losses are under control. Gradually, the market’s rhythm will start to work in your favor. Over the long run, compounding is far more reliable than luck.
With medium-term trades, it’s the opposite. If you want to ride a major trend, you have to accept volatility. Getting shaken out by a few stop-hunting candlesticks is why most people fail to hold on to their profits. Those who can stay in a trade aren’t necessarily the ones with the most accurate predictions; they’re the ones with greater emotional resilience.
There’s another point I keep repeating: your position size directly determines your ability to follow through. If your position is too large, your stop-loss is just for show. Keep it at a sensible size, and you can actually stick to your rules.
Before I enter a trade now, I ask myself just one question: If this trade goes wrong, can I exit comfortably without it affecting my state of mind?
If not, then no matter how tempting it looks, it’s not an opportunity—it’s a trap.
The market never runs out of opportunities. But if you wipe out your capital even once, no matter how big the next move is, it won’t matter to you.
The key to growing a small account isn’t being more willing to gamble. It’s learning to protect your capital first!!
