On September 27, I reviewed 20 trading competitions: buying on launch day and holding until now would have yielded a median return of -10.8%, with only 6 competitions in positive territory.
Four more competitions have launched in 12 days: Doppler (9/29), O Round 2 (9/30), Concrete (10/1), and Zest Round 2 (10/8). All four are still underway: each competition has two 7-day rounds, and only the first round has finished so far.
Returns since launch for the four competitions: Doppler -21.8%, O Round 2 -18.3%, Concrete -35.6%, and Zest +1.8%. Concrete surged as high as +29.9% intraday, but has since fallen to -35.6%. If you can’t hold on to the gains during the competition, they’ll go to someone else.
Among the 20 completed competitions, the median return during the competition was -6.6%, with only 6 in positive territory. Seven days after the competitions ended, all 14 were trading below their launch prices. Over the same period, $BTC rose, while competition tokens underperformed the median by 11.9 percentage points during the competition.
There were positive-return examples, but they were few and far between: PIEVERSE +42.5%, DEBIT +29.5%, and AEON +14.9%—these were the only 6 positive finishes among the 20 competitions.
Adding one more rule: beware of a return for another round. It isn’t good news; it’s another round of “buying for the rewards.”
