Starlink Mobile (Direct-to-Phone) V2 Satellites Are Truly Incredible
Musk just confirmed that Starlink Mobile V2 will have more than 100 times the bandwidth of today’s V1. The FCC has also approved the next-generation constellation, paving the way for a major acceleration in direct-to-phone satellite service.
Once this service is widely available, the most obvious change will be that you’ll be able to connect directly to Starlink with your phone—even in the mountains, deserts, or at sea, where there are no cell towers. For now, you can think of it as a way to “fill in coverage gaps.” But if bandwidth really does increase as much as expected, video, calls, and regular internet access will gradually become possible too.
Until now, Starlink has mainly competed for fixed broadband customers. Now it’s moving into AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile’s territory.
