$BNB CZ Responds to Vitalik on AI and Cryptography Security: "He's a 99.99, I'm a 0.01 together, we might just accomplish something."

Vitalik recently published a lengthy article warning that AI-accelerated mathematical research could significantly undermine the practical security of lattice-based cryptography systems within the next two years.

He expressed concern that technologies such as ML-DSA, Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), and even ECDSA could face the risk of being compromised sooner than anticipated.

Vitalik suggests that AI could drive mathematical progress equivalent to the last 50 years' worth of advancements in just two years. Consequently, Ethereum is gradually shifting toward hash-based signatures to reduce its reliance on lattice-based cryptography.

CZ weighed in with his characteristic style:

"Vitalik scores a 99.99 in math, while I only get a 0.01. If we join forces, perhaps we can create something meaningful."

"People might not grasp Vitalik's article as well as I do, but this kind of analysis and discussion is certainly worth reading."

You don't need to be a math genius to see that this is a serious issue. If Vitalik is right, the entire crypto industry could face an unprecedented race to upgrade its cryptography. If he is wrong, at least we have a new topic for debate while the market remains sluggish.

In any case, a long-form piece by Vitalik is always worth reading, and a brief response from CZ is worth pondering.

What do you think about this warning? Does AI really pose a threat to cryptography in the next two years?
