Binance futures liquidations totaled $2.49 million over the past hour: $257,000 in long positions (10.3%) and $2.23 million in short positions.
After a liquidation event, I look at three things:
① Which side got liquidated more: more shorts than longs means the surge forced a wave of short covering;
② Where liquidations were most concentrated: $BTC , at $1 million. It tends to see the biggest volatility next;
③ Whether open interest fell afterward: a drop means leverage was genuinely flushed out; little change means new leverage is entering.
When funding rates or open interest are heavily skewed to one side, a move in the opposite direction is often not far off.
