【ETFs just saw $480 million flow out, but Wall Street says $50 billion has flowed in this year 🤔💸】

Is money flowing out, or flowing in? Both answers showed up this week. ETFs saw $480 million in redemptions in a single day—the biggest outflow since late June. But JPMorgan says $50 billion has flowed in this year. Money is pouring out and pouring in at the same time. It’s a real head-scratcher. 😳

The report came out on Wednesday. They calculated the inflows for the full year. At an annualized rate, that comes to $66 billion—up from $52 billion in May. But I took a closer look: it’s only half of last year’s pace. So don’t rush to declare the bull market back. 🤨

Where’s the money coming from? This time, it’s not just companies buying and holding crypto. In the third quarter, ETFs and futures both contributed. Open interest in CME $BTC futures surged past its previous high. Open interest in $ETH is also approaching last October’s peak. Trend-following investors are adding to their long positions again. To me, it looks like institutions are quietly building positions. 🏦

And don’t forget the miners: they’ve been net sellers of $1.8 billion this year. Publicly listed mining companies account for most of that selling pressure. Corporate treasuries are also splitting into two camps. Public companies are buying aggressively, while private treasuries are pulling back. Strategy was the most aggressive buyer early on—but it raised money by issuing shares and debt. 🔻

Now look at spot prices, and the mood is completely different. $BTC briefly fell to $82,000. ETH was even weaker. Spot ETFs saw seven consecutive days of outflows. Money is swirling around outside the spot market, but prices haven’t followed. I usually treat this kind of divergence as noise. 📉

So these $50 billion inflows aren’t a call to charge ahead. They’re more like a health check. Institutions and retail investors are both adding to their positions, and leverage hasn’t blown up. But the pace is only half of last year’s, and things are still moving slowly. Next, all eyes are on fourth-quarter trading volume. We’ll soon see whether sentiment heats up first or prices move first. 💭

📌 ETFs are bleeding in the short term, but $50 billion has still flowed in this year—at only half last year’s pace.

Would you dare to follow the institutions and add to your position at these levels? Let’s talk in the comments.
