Grayscale Research Artificial Intelligence Encryption Sector
A research report released by Grayscale on October 2 shows that the artificial intelligence crypto sector rose 54% in September, outperforming the broader market by 24%. The top performers within the sector included $NEAR , up 183%, Venice, up 70%, World, up 47%, and Bittensor, up 37%.
Grayscale research head Zach Pandl said the performance reflects growing investor interest in blockchain infrastructure that supports AI. He noted that public blockchains could complement centralized AI systems through mechanisms such as machine-to-machine payments, decentralized identity, private computation, and verifiable records.
Grayscale also estimated the sector’s market cap at around $15 billion, making it the smallest among the six major sectors it tracks. Pandl said the sector may produce one or more major projects over the next five years, but he emphasized this is the firm’s outlook rather than a set outcome.

Citrini Research James van Geelen
Citrini Research disclosed a crypto portfolio target allocation comprising 15 tokens. Derive, Lighter, and Ether.fi each account for 10%, making them the three largest positions in the portfolio. Aave and Ethena account for 9% each, Solana for 8%, Hyperliquid and Aerodrome for 7% each, LayerZero, Chainlink, Backpack, and Maple for 5% each, Uniswap for 4%, and Pendle and Ondo for 3% each.
Citrini was founded by James van Geelen and is headquartered in New York. It focuses on thematic investing and global macro research. The firm previously published scenario assumptions for 2028, examining the expansion of autonomous AI agents, layoffs of white-collar workers, and “ghost” GDP.
Citrini also said in another article that barriers between traditional finance and the crypto industry are fading. With the widespread adoption of AI agents, blockchains could see a real application inflection point. The firm believes investors’ focus should not be just whether assets will be tokenized, but rather who can capture the economic value arising from the tokenization wave.
Of note, in Citrini’s portfolio, DRV, $LIT, and $ETHFI—each at 10%—rank among the top three holdings, and these three assets have recently exhibited extremely high volatility. Lighter’s four-hour volatility (ATR) is 8.70%, making it one of the most volatile assets in this analysis.
In terms of price performance, Aave is currently at 167.05, Uniswap at 7.36, LayerZero$ZRO at 1.989, and $ONDO at 0.4887.
