Macroeconomic Policy / Interest Rates
The Fed’s September FOMC minutes (released 10/7): The full committee unanimously agreed to raise rates by 25bp to 3.75%–4.00%; most participants believed that another rate hike may be needed before year-end. Inflation remains significantly above the 2% target.
Fed Governor Waller (speech on 10/8): If the data comes in as expected, further rate hikes are likely needed to bring inflation back to 2%, but the timing has flexibility and does not require raising rates at consecutive meetings.
Market pricing: CME FedWatch shows the probability of a consecutive rate hike at the October meeting falling to 17.2% (from 37.6% a week ago); the mainstream view is that October will likely be on hold.
Chairmanship handover: Powell said this is his last meeting during his term; Kevin Warsh is expected to take over. White House advisor Hassett publicly criticized Fed officials who advocate for continued rate hikes.
2.2 Technology / AI Product Releases
Google Cloud launched Gemini Agent (10/8): positioned as a “general-purpose work intelligence agent.” It can autonomously perform knowledge work, Q&A, content creation, and programming, and can call internal tools such as Gmail/Drive/Docs. It can also call Gemini and the Claude double-model associated with $ANTHROPIC , and plans to support more private/open-source models. It is seen as a key step for AI moving from conversation assistants to autonomous execution.
NVIDIA DGX Spark 64GB launched this month: supports locally running AI models with up to 100 billion parameters, lowering the barrier to local AI development.
OpenAI fully rolled out GPT-6 and released an enterprise implementation guide (model selection / inference strength tuning / tool orchestration).
Google tests a space-based AI data center (Project Suncatcher): using SpaceX rockets to send four AI processors into orbit to validate the feasibility of orbital computing power.
2.3 IPOs and Capital Operations
Anthropic is expected to list by mid-November at the fastest: it has already selected Nasdaq; the valuation may be up to $2 trillion (potentially surpassing SpaceX for the largest IPO in history). In May, the valuation was $96.5 billion, and annualized revenue is said to have broken through $47 billion. The company has already secretly filed its S-1. $OPENAI confirmed it will not IPO in 2026, or may push it to 2027.
SK hynix $SKHYB spin-off of Solidigm to pursue a U.S. IPO: Goldman Sachs + Morgan Stanley lead, with JPMorgan Chase/Citi/UBS joining. The fundraising target is about $10 billion, with a valuation cap of up to $100 billion. Focus is on AI enterprise-grade NAND storage. Kioxia is also preparing for a U.S. listing, with increased momentum for securitizing NAND assets.
