Russia's consumer rights watchdog said Irkutsk Oblast, which recently reported a case of pneumonia of unknown origin, now has a stable public health situation and no health risks. According to Sina Finance, the regional capital, Irkutsk City, is lifting related preventive measures.
The watchdog said more than 90% of people who had contact with the patient have completed medical observation, and no health problems related to infectious pathology were found. It added that nearly 5,000 laboratory tests found no dangerous pathogenic microorganisms, and two committees overseeing biosafety compliance confirmed that no accidents occurred at the institute while it was working with pathogenic microorganisms.
The watchdog said the sick worker had been vaccinated against dangerous infectious diseases related to his work and had immunity. After learning of the illness, authorities immediately adopted comprehensive preventive measures under relevant health laws and informed the World Health Organization in line with the International Health Regulations.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus previously wrote on social media that the patient died on October 2 after being hospitalized with severe pneumonia. Since the case was first reported by the media, the WHO has been actively following the death case.
