Duoshen | Don't let low-timeframe candles drain your account

Many people have solid technical skills and discipline, yet their accounts keep shrinking. The problem often comes down to getting hooked on low-timeframe candles.

On 1-minute, 5-minute, and 15-minute charts, signals keep popping up. It looks like there are opportunities everywhere, but most are just market noise—the traces of big players testing the waters and retail traders reacting emotionally. A breakout that looks significant on a short timeframe may be nothing more than a wick on a higher timeframe.

Low timeframes constantly tempt you to enter and repeatedly trigger your stop-losses. Losses don’t necessarily come from one big hit; they can build up from countless small losses, while fees and slippage steadily eat away at your capital.

Higher timeframes are for strategy; lower timeframes are just for tactics. Set your direction on the higher timeframe, look for structure on the medium timeframe, and use the lower timeframe only to time your entry. Never make decisions based on the lower timeframe alone.

Opportunities on higher timeframes are rare, and the market can feel dull. Many people can’t stand staying out of the market. They crave the “sense of participation” that lower timeframes offer, using constant activity to mask their inner restlessness.

The inability to stop watching lower timeframes comes down to being unable to let go of the desire to control the market. Trading goes against human nature: the more you try to control the market, the more easily it controls you.

Tune out the short-term noise and focus on the higher timeframes. Wait patiently for the few truly worthwhile opportunities—that’s how you keep both your account and your mindset steady.
