Starknet, which completed its mainnet upgrade just three days ago, surged into the top gainers today despite a broad market sell-off: $STRK was trading around $0.057, up more than 14% in 24 hours, while Bitcoin dipped as low as $82,000 and total liquidations across the market briefly exceeded $700 million.

The catalysts are concrete: the v0.14.4 mainnet upgrade went live on October 5, allowing a single proof to support around 1.1 billion L2 gas and raising the ceiling for compute-intensive applications. The ecosystem is also pushing strkBTC, subsidizing bridging fees to attract Bitcoin liquidity and combining the BTCFi and ZK narratives. The team is also evaluating a move to an independent L1 to address the threat of quantum computing, adding another layer of long-term potential.

But the supply side matters too: around three-quarters of the tokens are already in circulation, and another round of unlocks is coming in October. No matter how strong the rebound, until this sword hanging overhead falls, there will always be something holding back further gains.

$MET , another name among the top gainers, is a different kind of case. Meteora is a long-established liquidity platform on Solana, and it surged more than 40% today, despite there being almost no comparable new catalyst in the market. The move appears to be driven more by sentiment and capital flows. On the ecosystem front, there are longer-term positives such as Samsung Wallet adding support for USDC transfers, but short-term sentiment-driven traders aren't focused on those. This kind of speculative token is only suitable for small-position bets; it's better to wait for a pullback, as chasing the rally doesn't offer an attractive risk-reward ratio.

Leading the market in a broad sell-off shows that real money is moving, but outperforming the market doesn't mean there's a margin of safety.
