NEAR is up 140% in the past 30 days, putting it at No. 20 by market cap. NEAR Intents has surpassed $31 billion in cumulative trading volume. Taken together, these figures point not to L1 performance, but to the narrative of “intents” as a settlement layer: users say what they want, and the chain matches it for them, without having to take each step themselves.

I’ve been watching this figure for a while. Sui is taking a different route, competing on TPS and gas benchmarks. After the Glamsterdam upgrade on Sepolia, the block gas limit reached 200 million, while actual sampled usage was still less than half of that. The two approaches are at odds: one pushes performance to the limit, the other abstracts away the interaction.

Is this NEAR rally driven by real demand or a narrative premium—and how much of that $31 billion is wash trading—
