China’s central bank releases September gold reserve data:
The People’s Bank of China added to its gold reserves for the 23rd consecutive month, with a net increase of 740,000 ounces (about 23 tonnes) in September—the largest monthly increase in nearly three years.
At the end of September, official gold reserves rose to 77.47 million ounces, valued at about $323.5 billion at current prices. Over the past 23 months, cumulative purchases totaled about 4.67 million ounces, worth approximately $19.5 billion.
During the same period, foreign exchange reserves fell to $3.4 trillion. Despite the pullback in gold prices, the central bank continued to accelerate its gold purchases, as efforts to diversify reserves continued.
